Install from the Atlassian Marketplace as a Confluence site administrator. The app asks for permission to read page content, to write pages (used only when you apply a fix or publish a report) and to store its own data. It appears in three places once installed: the byline of every page, an Accessibility entry in the space menu, and an Accessibility report entry in the site-wide apps menu.

Open any page and select Accessibility in the byline under the title. The panel checks the page as it is right now and lists what it found, grouped by severity. Each finding explains the effect on a reader and the fix.

For an image with missing or unhelpful alt text you can type the description into the panel and apply it — Clearwren writes it into the page body and creates a new version, attributed to you.

In the space menu choose Accessibility, then Scan this space. The scan runs in the background in batches, so you can leave the page; progress updates as it goes. When it finishes you get the average score, how many pages have no level A or AA failure, the most common problems across the space, and the pages to fix first.

Every scanned space is re-scanned automatically once a week.

From the space dashboard, Publish report page creates a dated Confluence page in that space containing the summary, the findings by check with their WCAG criteria, and a statement of method. It is an ordinary page: comment on it, restrict it, export it or attach it to a procurement response.

Under app settings you can set the conformance target (A, AA or AAA) and turn individual checks off site-wide. Turning a check off removes it from scores, dashboards and reports.

Images that are genuinely decorative — a divider, a repeated brand mark — can be marked as decorative so they stop being reported as missing alt text.

• Pages whose body is larger than roughly 900 KB are skipped and reported as unsupported.
• Up to 300 issues are stored per page; the rest are counted but not listed individually.
• Only current pages are scanned — not drafts, archived pages, or attachments.
• Checks apply to page content. The surrounding Confluence interface is Atlassian's own responsibility, covered by their VPAT.
